Local Lists:

Local lists evaluate and clarify the contribution of locally important heritage assets to the historic environment. This has been highlighted within Planning Policy Statement 5 which points out the contribution local lists can make as an evidence base to support local plan making.

Local Lists can be undertaken on a district wide or smaller area basis. Conservation Area appraisals can also be a vehicle which contribute to compilation of a Local List. BEAMS looks for the community’s views when undertaking Local List surveys and also takes into account local characteristics, historic background and English Heritage guidance.

In 2008 BEAMS produced a comprehensive Local List for Hertsmere Borough Council; this entailed a detailed study of locally important buildings throughout the Borough and was not limited to Conservation Areas.
